alg II Rational Function Review Guide

Make sure you are from period 1 or 2 if you are reading this post.

Here is a rough study guide for the rational function test.

2 graphing problems - 1 parent, 1 non-parent

1 writing an equation from a graph

1  stating domain and range of a rational function

3 word problems; probably 2 with d=rt and 1 with variation - check out your POUs that you should have back now

1 writing equation of a non parent function when you know the zeros and asymptotes

2-3 rational function equations that you will have to solve.  look for unreasonable solutions

Here are a few samples I thought of.

  1. Create a rational function that has the given lines as asymptotes.
    1. y = -3, x = 1, and x = -4
2.  what is the domain of the parent rational function that has been v. stretched by 3, reflected over the x-axis, shifted 4 to the left and down 3?  Write the equation to show this function.

3.   solve  2/(x(x+1)) = 1 + (2/ (x+1))

4.  Julien can mulch a garden in 20 minutes.  Together, Julien and Remy can mulch the same garden in 11 minutes.  How long will it take Remy to mulch the garden when working alone?

5.  graph:  y = (x-4)(x+2)/ ((x-7) squared)

6.  A disinfectant kills germs pretty quickly.  After 1 second, there are 1000 germs but after 5 seconds there are only 40.  When will there be only 1 germ?

I bet there are most just like these in the hw that we did (some of us did).
