alg I function test review guide

The next test is 9-10 problems testing our knowledge of functions.  It is on Friday 1/25.

The following would be good to do if you would like to prepare.  Bring in your questions on the days before the test.

  1. Draw 3 graphs that are functions.  Draw 3 graphs that are not.
  2. Name the 5 parent functions.  Which have restricted domains?  Which has restricted ranges?
  3. If p(x) = -11x +5, then evaluate p(-4).
  4. Graph y = (x+1)2 - 6.  What is the range?
  5. Graph y < 2x - 7.
  6. Solve the system:  y = 5x - 2 and 2x - y = 11.
  7. Write the equation for the function that has points (-1, -3), (0, 1), (1, 5) and (2, 9).
  8. Write the equation for the function that has points (0, 2), (1, 1), (2, 2) and (3, 3).
  9. Write the equation for the function that has the points (-1, 3), (0, 4), (1, 3), (2, 0) and (3, -5).
  10. In the arithmetic sequence (-4, -1, 2, 5, 8…), what is the 42nd term?

Be prepared to do a work problem like the one of page 432 #11 and p. 492 #3.

Friday 1/18

pre calc-   Took a few more notes on identities and did a practice problem on a non-unit circle.   We then voted to either do more identities or worked on p. 289
\

alg I -   After we turned in, there was a handout done in groups on functions.

Wednesday, January 16, 2019

thursday 1/16

pre calc - got our quizzes back and reviewed the hw.  We had notes on trigonometric identities and hw was p.  281 #59-65.

alg I -   After a WODB, we did some whiteboard practice and did 5 problems on linear inequalities.  Work due on Friday.

Wed. 1/16

pre calc -  We had our quiz on the unit circle.  hw is 4.3 in the book #7,8,13,14.

alg I -  we reviewed what we learned on Desmos and then did warm up 2 on functions.  Lastly we took notes on linear inequalities.

I'm back!

pre calc - After reviewing Monday's work, we finished notes and did unit circle practice.  Hw was the l8 problems I projected on the board.

alg I -  We also reviewed Monday's work and went to the library.  On the computers we did 2 Desmos activities.

monday 1/14

pre calc review guide - basic trig

this is a bit early but some people like to get ready in advance.

The first trig test will be 13 questions, though there are multiple parts to some questions.  It is 80% identical to the pre test.  How about those apples??

1 converting degrees and radian
1 naming coterminal angles
1 naming reference angles
1 where you're given 1 trig function ratio and are asked to find another
3 using right triangle trig or pythag or triangle sum to find missing info
4 finding the exact value of trig value at an angle (ex.  sine 60 dgs = )
1 solving a basic trig equation ( sin x = 1/2)
1 trig application involving angle of depression/ elevation (think planes landing)
2 involving the Pythagorean Identities
2  proving a mathematical truth using trig identities (prove: (tan x) (cos x) =  sin x
1 trig application on using a 2 variable equation (think a bouncy spring)

Here are some problems in the book

p. 261 #25, 26, 51, 53
p. 270 # 9-15 odds, 23, 27, 33, 74, 75
p. 280 #7, 59-65 odds, 67, 69, 78
p. 289 #15, 23, 24, 27, 47-49, 67, 68
