tuesday 5/31

Heading in the home stretch!

People are so funny...they keep asking if there is a review guide.  I wish them well.

alg II HP - today we reviewed the trig part of the final.  it will most likely determine your grade on the final and your success in pre-calc and calc.  Tomorrow is rational functions.

alg I P - today we did a task on rockets and several problems on systems and sci notation.

friday 5/27

alg II HP- we took our final quiz of our final unit!  enjoy the weekend and we will start reviewing next week.

alg I p -  we turned in our rocket math, finished the grid assignment and played the quad game to get ready for our final.  Enjoy your weekend and any recent missing work from the last few weeks cannot be turned in later than Tuesday.

alg II Hp final review

This year's final looks easier than in years past due to the new book but it is still fairly comprehensive.

There is one section of 10 MC questions that will be on logarithms and rational functions.  These will be worth less than the free response but will be scored as all or half.

The other section is free response and is completely on trigonometry.  Your previous tests/ perf tasks would be a great asset to study from.

Trig:  2 proving identities, 2 right triangle applications, 3 unit circle, 2 equations to solve, 2 graphs
p. 492  30--33, 37-39,60, 61
p. 482  25-30, 43, 46, 48
p. 474 #13-18
p.  467  45, 47, 49, 50
for identities and trig equations, there isn't enough in the book so consult the unit test and problems that we did in class

rational:   2 d=rt applications (air currents, cleaning with a friend, river currents), 1-2 solving, 1-2 graphing; see the old test or perf.task.

solving:  p. 396   20-30, 33,34   though check out your perf task for the applications
for graphing p. 371  #25-28, but these are pretty simple, better look at your unit test again to see problems that involve a hole or more than one vertical asymptote

logs:   2-3 solving log equations, 2-3 solving exponential equations, 1 application with e (natural base)

p. 316  #69
know the log properties in chapter 6.5 to help you solve
p.  338  #7-12, 22-28, 63, 67-70
some of the exponential equations are not in the book, like the one that turns into a quadratic and the China vs India problem but they should be on the unit test.  See below.

4(7)^x = 9(2)^x

9^x + 3(3)^x = 28

alg I final review

There are 2 parts of the final; a mult. choice and a free response.
The free response has 7 questions but is weighted more.  There are problems on:  rockets, graphing a quad, number of boxes in a figure, finding the distance between a rectangle in a rectangle, fencing in animals, solving a non-linear system and comparing a linear vs exponential.

The MC has problems on;  solving a quad, finding vertex, using scientific notation, solving linear systems and writing an equation from solutions.

here are some pages in the book you can check out:\
p. 477 #1
p. 542 #2,4,5
p. 586 #3-4
p. 587 #1, 5
p. 642 #10
p.  709 #1
p. 715 #11
p. 704 #1-5, 12-15, 22
p. 719 #1-4

look at all those tasks where we solve for the number of boxes
the concept connection from 5/18
the perf task from 5/20

kind of hard to find the graphing problems in the text so I would try to graph these: (x^2 is x "squared)

y= x^2 - 4x +6
y = x^2 +7x +10
y= 4(2)^x

There are not good examples of the systems on the test in the book so look at these 2

1.   y = 4x-7   and 2x +2y = 16

2.  y = x^2 - 5   and y = 0.5x

thursday 5/27

alg II HP-  today we worked on quiz prep.  The quiz is mostly using geometric finite sequence and series though there is 1 that is geometric infinite series.  being able to read summation notation is necessary.

alg I p - today we were on the field doing stomp rockets for periods 4 and 5.  Make sure you turn in your calculations for the initial velocity.  Last date to turn in missing work is next Tuesday 5/31/16.

Wednesday, May 25, 2016

wednesday 5/25

alg II HP - Today we did some moree problems from 8.3/8.4   p. 440 #29,31.  We also looked at the recursive equations again (not on quiz) and finished the class with some coding exercises.

alg I P - we reviewed the test from Tuesday and then we had a grid task to finish the class.

1- problem about rockets (top height, time in the air, etc)

1- problem on finding the number of boxes in the 10th and 100th figure of a sequence

here are some pages in the book you can check out:

alg II HP Final Review guide

How do you like these apples?   3 weeks in ad-vance!

This year's final looks easier than in years past due to the new book but it is still fairly comprehensive.

There is one section of 10 MC questions that will be on logarithms and rational functions.  These will be worth less than the free response but will be scored as all or nothing.

The other section is free response and is currently on trigonometry though a few problems from our last unit of sequences could make it onto the final depending on how that goes.  Your previous tests/ perf tasks would be a great asset to study from.

stat review guide

There are 8 problems on our stat test.  Not too much calculation, more analysis.

make sure you can tell the difference between an experiment, survey and ob study

make sure you can construct a survey without bias or point out what makes a survey biased

make sure you can take a data set and make either a bell curve or box n whiskers:  calculators encouraged

make sure you can find the z score for a number if you have mean and stand. dev.

know the 68-95-99.7 rule and how to find probabilities on a normal curve

make sure you can compare two data sets and come up with a statistic that says which group did better

I think the best things to look back on are the situational work we did in class but there are some problems that I found in the book.

p. 600 all

p. 602 # 29, 33

p. 614  any or all

p. 615 #15-23 odd, 33, 40
