Algebra I Quadratics Review Guide for test 5/24

There will be a unit test (the last one!) on Friday.  It is very comprehensive of the whole unit; in other words, there is a lot of graphing and vocab on the test and  not just solving equations.

There are 8 questions, though some will have multiple parts.

5 Solving quadratic equations - you can use any method.  All will have real solutions.
6 on quadratic equation vocab -  vertex, roots, solutions, maximum/ minimum, parabola, standard form, quadratic equation, quadratic formula
1 graphing a quadratic
1 finding the vertex
1 putting a quadratic equation into standard form
1 reading a parabolic graph that matches a real world situation

Be able to:

solve:  (x+1)(x - 5) = 0

solve: x^2 +8x +7 = y

solve:  x^2 - 2x = 5

solve:  2x^2 - 11x + 5 = 0

solve:  4x^2 - 14 = 18   (yes that is a 14 and not a 14x)

graph:  y= 2x^2 - 8x + 7

what is the maximum value of y = -3x^2 +18x + 1?

Put the following into standard form:  y = (2x+3)(x - 6) + 2

If a golf ball is hit and its height is modeled by h = -16t^2 + 48t, when does it hit the ground?

ANSWERS:
1.  x= -1, 5
2. x = -1, -7
3.  x = 1 +/- sq rt 6
4. x = 0.5, 5
5. x = +/- sq rt 8
7. ( 3, 28)
9.  t = 3 seconds

vector/trig test review guide

The test for vectors is next Thursday 5/16/19.  There is some trigonometry on it as well.

The test is 8 questions, though like the last quiz there could be a and b parts to a few questions.

1 real world problem that will involve an oblique triangle.
1 finding a value (angle or side) to an oblique triangle
2 drawing resultants after adding vectors (could involve scalar multiplication).
1 determining if a value is scalar or vector
1 putting a vector in component form and determining magnitude
1 plotting points on the complex plane
1 basic trigonometry

Most of this info is in 6.1 to 6.3 but I say the 6.3 is weighted to most in this test.

Practice Problems
p. 410 #7, 48
p. 417 #7, 15, 47, 51
