WEd 1/31/18

alg II hp -   great class today as we covered a lot conceptually.   We reviewed the hw and saw how to use an exponential to graph the log of the same base; we did #54 on p. 324 and approximated log values using our brains. Also had a WODB on log equations.   Hw is p. 322 #2-7.



alg II -   started with p. 316 #67 on alligators and hw review.  Finished class with 6 problems on the walls.  No hw but quiz on Tuesday on 6.3 and 6.4.



alg I -   started wtih WODB on functions; did whiteboard review on the unit; finished with a kahoot on domain.  No hw but unit test is Friday.  Check out study guide.

Tuesday 1/30/18

alg II hp - Watched 2 videos on the math constant e, as well as discuss #39 on page 308; kahoot and then final day on 6-3 hw p. 315 #43-45, 54, 55-57.

alg II -    warm up on how to simplify a log expression using numeracy;  did p. 315 #35, 36 on how to simplify exponential expressions with log exponents; took notes on graphing   hw is p. 322  #2-7, 7, 17, 18.


alg I -    hw is the 6 problems you did in groups;  there was also a warm up which is due on Friday.

The unit test on functions (pt. II) is this Friday.  there will be 10 questions.

things to know

the parent functions
how to find domain and range
how to write an equation for a function or sequence
how to graph and solve an inequality
how to solve a SOE.

Knowing how to transform parent functions will make things a lot easier.


Here are some sample problems.

1.  graph:   y < -2x +3
2.  solve the SOE -     y = 5x - 14        y = 2x  - 5
3.  name the parent functions.
4.  what are the domain and range for each parent function?
5.  what is the 30th term in the sequence ( 50, 30, 10 ...)
6.  what is the equation for the sequence  (2, 7), (3, 11), (4, 15) ?
7.  What is the equation for the function (-1, -1), (0, 0), (1, 1) and (2, 8)

1.      8.   Write the function for the data (-1, 2), (0, 1), (2, 3), (3, 4) and (4, 5).

Monday 1/29/18

alg II hp - We took another look at China v. India and how to write inverse functions for log funcitons.  We also did a chem problem involving PH.  In groups, we did a task on a decay model of allergy medication.  Finally, hw was p. 314 # 7, 11, 15, 21, 25, 33.



alg II -   We reviewed the quiz from Friday, did #54 on p. 315 on earthquakes.  Finally we finished doing the decay model of allergy medication.  No hw.



alg  I -   Desmos day!  Test Friday on functions.

Friday 1/26/18

alg II hp -  If you missed (Leo), you owe me the China/ India handout and you will need to make up the quiz.  We also took notes on 6.3 log functions.  No hw.



alg II -  We had a warm up on solving exponential/ log equations.  We also had a quiz and an M & M activity on animal species going extinct.  No hw.



alg I -   We did more sequence work and took notes for recursive functions.  We had our quiz; if you missed it you will take it on Monday.  No hw.

Thursday 1/25/18

alg II hp -  After hw review, we worked on the handout China vs. India.  Due tomorrow.  Quiz tomorrow, too!



alg II -  After hw review, we had a warm up on solving equations that led to our notes on logs, 6-3.  Hw is p. 314 #5, 7, 11, 13




alg I - Warm up 1, #39 from p. 238 in Holt both due on Friday.  Whiteboards on sequences (patterns).
Work for the week due tomorrow.  Quiz tomorrow, too!

Wednesday 1/24/18

alg II hp -   We reviewed hw and had a Kahoot.  Took notes on 6-1.  Hw is p 300 #9, 11, 19-21.



alg II -  Reviewed the hw from 6.2 and the desmos work from Tuesday.  Later in groups we worked on China vs. India.  Finish   a-f     for hw.


alg I -   More work with the machines as well as a Kahoot.  We did more practice on the whiteboards.  2 problems at the end of class on sequences.

Tuesday 1/23/18

alg II hp -  Inverse function day; doesn't make sense now but it will.  Hw is p. 281 # 9, 13, 19, 22. 



alg II -   Desmos day!  Also did #23 on p. 304.  No hw.



alg I -  We started with #11 on pg 433, then whiteboards on recent material and finally 8 problems on board that we did in groups.

Monday 1/22/18

alg II hp -   We reviewed the perf task; then took our pre test on logs and exponentials.  No hw.




alg II -  We went over b =  1+r; did an activity on (1+1/n)^n, took notes on "e"; hw is p. 307 #3, 5, 11, 15, 27.


alg I -  wodb problem with a re-visit from the "4-machine" task from August;  We also had a walkabout with 7 problems, which is due Friday.

Friday 1/19/18

alg II hp -   Test day!  Onto the next unit on Monday


alg II -   We started with an application of exponential fnnctions, then reviewed the work from earlier this week.  Budget exercise for the final part of the day.


alg I -  We finished our notes on functions pt II.  then we explored linear inequalities.

thursday 1/18/18

Another day at a conference, another sub day.  Sub had the plans, I hope you did the work and turned it in.

alg II Hp - I was there and we reviewed for the test tomorrow.  Check the review guide problems/ vidos and practice, practice, practice!




alg II -  I think the sub should be giving you problems out of the purple Holt book.  #1-6, 11.


alg I -  There is a handout on SOEs that you need to complete.

Wednesday

I was out for all classes today; the sub should have given the lesson plans.  Periods 2, 4, 5 and 6 should have completed work from the textbook and turned it in.  Period 1 had a performance task.

Tuesday 1/16/18

alg II Hp -  Today we started with a great ellipse app on planet paths #36 , then got into groups and worked on hyperbola graphs #2-8 evens p. 448.  Perf task tomorrow.



alg II -   We had our pre test for the new unit and reviewed the rules of exponents on the whiteboard.  No hw.


alg I -   Most of the class was learning to make a budget from an income but we also took some notes on functions pt. II.  No hw.

Friday 1/12/18

Sorry for this coming late but I am still a little bit in vacation mode.


alg II hp -  did some whiteboard work on circles and ellipses.  They look fairly mastered in general so we may just concentrate on the tangent work until the unit test.  We took notes on hyperbolas but I don;t think we had time to practice them.  Will do so on Tuesday and thurs.  Perf task on Wed. now.  I will try to get the study guide on as soon as possible.


alg II -  Took our sem. 1 unit review quiz.  Scores look good and if you missed you will take on Tuesday.


alg I-  You also took your sem. 1 review quiz.  Congrats to those who broke the code for extra credit!

Thursday 1/11/18

alg II hp =   due to schedule complications, the perf task will be Wednesday not Thursday.  Today we reviewed the hw, and then got in our groups to work on some very challenging circle problems #36-39.  There isn't any hw but make sure to review your notes to know the circle and ellipse problems.



alg II -   Quiz tomorrow on semester 1.   Today we had a walkabout on radicals and then a task on graphing a polynomial function (Illustrative ) using roots and y intercept.



alg I - We finished the Subaru Illustrative task and then used the computers to do 2 Desmos activities.

Tuesday 1/9/18

alg II hp -  We reviewed the first semester, did a listening circle on changes to make, and finished with notes on circles and ellipses..  No hw.




alg II -  Today we reviewed semester 1 and then did a group task on the zero product property.  No hw.




alg I -   Today we reviewed the syllabus, did whiteboard exercises and a group task on a skeleton tower.  No hw.
