alg I final review guide

We have made the final and we believe it will show all the great info that you have learned this year.

There are 2 parts:  multiple choice and free response.

Multiple choice has 9 problems.

4 solving quadratic equations
1 understanding real vs imaginary (non-real) solutions
1 writing a quadratic equation from solutions (x = 3, -5)
1 finding the vertex of a quadratic equation
1 understanding the vocab:  vertex, solutions, factors
1 multiplying numbers in scientific notation

Free response has 6 problems.
5 are quadratic in nature - graphing, box sequence, fence vs area, system of equation, rocket height

1 is a problem on exponential decay of a population

We recommend looking at and re-doing the problems on both the unit test and performance task as almost the whole final in on quadratics.

Monday 5/30/ Tuesday 5/31 LAST POST OF THIS YEAR

alg II -    We looked at p. 493 #52, 55.  There were also whiteboard problems on labeling a unit circle in radians and graphing/ solving trig equations.  Finally, we worked on solving any 2-variable equation.

alg I -   We went over applications for quadratics and quad system of equations.  We also had a WODB for quad factors  WE also had our final writing prompt for the year.

Tuesday, all classes had a performance task.

Start studying as the final is an important grade for many of you.

Alg II Final Review

The big grade left is the final (20%).    It has14 questions that focus on 4 units:  trig, logs/exponentials, stats and rational functions.

rational functions -  2 questions - simplifying rational expressions, solving rational functions and eliminating unreasonable solutions

logs -  2 questions - solving log equations and eliminating unreasonable solutions
exponentials - 2 questions -  application with an exponential equation, solving an exponential equation

stats - 3 questions - making a bell curve from a data set, naming outliers, observational study vs. experiment

trig - 4 questions -  writing an equation from a sinusoidal graph, right triangle trig applications, graphing a sinusoid using transformations, finding trig values on the unit circle ( ex. solve for possible values for x:  sin x = 1/2)  You will have to answer in radians for this test!!!!😧

Those who fail to plan are planning to fail!

Study guide in textbook

p. 338 #13, 28-29, 31, 36, 39-40, 63, 67-68  solving logs and exponentials

p. 380 #13, 16, 29, 33  simplifying rational expressions

p. 396 # 21, 30  solving rational functions

p. 467 #46, 48, 49  right triangle trig application

p.  482 # 11, 12, 29, 30, 31  unit circle trig

p.  623  #7-10  ob study vs experiment

the book does not have any problems where you make a bell curve from a data set but we did this several times during the unit.  You will need a graphing calculator for this one problem so plan accordingly.

Friday 5/26

It was our final unit test for all classes.

Make it up if you missed today.

Performance tasks on Wednesday and finals the week after.

Work hard now to enjoy your summer later.

Wednesday 5/24

I am out today for a conference.  A sub will be in class.  If you missed, here is the plan.

alg II -   Since we have a test on Friday, I had the sub assign page 496.  I can't remember the problems but it was mostly every other problem.  Check it out if you are interested.

alg I -   Mr Russell was in class so he had the plan for today.  I believe he had a starting problem of finding the max height of a projectile. The rest of the class was on whiteboard problems (writing an equation from solutions, and solving to get fractional answers.

Review Guide for Algebra I Quadratics

There are 10 problems on the unit test and here is their breakdown:

4  solving a quadratic  (some will be factorable but others won't be; one will have only 1 variable!)
1 graphing a quadratic function
1  writing a quadratic from solutions
1  writing a quadratic function from a table
1 finding a maximum/ minimum for a quadratic equation
1  understanding why we set the equation to zero
1 solving a system of equations that has a quad equation in it.

I will include problems from the book soon but you should have several warm ups and problems from Holt that you can re-do to practice in the meantime.

in the book (remember the back of the book has answers to check to see if you did it right):

p. 704 #1-3
p. 709 #1 a-c
p. 715 #11 a-b
p. 753 #4 a-c
p. 779 #5
p. 787 #14
p. 759 example 2;  this is an inequality problem.  You will just solve the equation that look like these inequalities.  Book didn't have a better example.

Thursday 5/18

alg II -  Quiz tomorrow on unit cirlce!!   Make sure you know the common angles and their coordinates.   We did more work on p. 482 in the text  #7, 8, 22, 25-32, 37.  I meant to do more Countdowns today but we did not have the time.  Try to do some on your own tonight.  We'll do a little bit of practice before the quiz on Friday.

alg I -  We did warm up # 16 on solving and graphing quadratics.   After we looked at a problem in the Holt book (p. 608 #33) where we used the quad formula to see if an event was possible.
