alg II Hp ln/ expon. test review guide

The test is finished and there are 11 problems.  (66 points)

3 are applications of decay / growth problem including one with "e" as a base (perf task and problems leading up to perf task are great to study and re-do + 6.1/6.2)

1 - transforming a log or expn. graph (6.4 and the entire year)

1 - domain and range (the entire year)

6 - solving equations (6.6 as well as the ones from the notes, QUIZZES and warm ups)

I don't think that these problems are necessarily difficult but there are 11 of them so you will have to be ready to recognize the problems and develop a strategy quickly.  If you are someone is has been relying on guess-n-check, this test will be hell for you, but by all means, best of luck.

Don't forget to use the order of operations (PEMDAS) and if you are not sure about a mathematical rule that you are inventing, plug in some numbers to verify that it is true.

3 Solve each of the following the equations for x:

a 4x 6·2x + 8 = 0

b 25x – 6·5x + 9 = 0

c log10 (x) + 2 log10 (5) = log10 (6)

d log3 (x 1) = 2

e 2 log3 (x) + log3 (9) = 0

f 2 ln (x) + ln (3) = 4

6 Given each function, identify the parent function, list the transformations, state the domain and range, and graph.
  a f(x) = 3(2)x +1 – 4                   b   y = -3log2 (5x) – 4                 c y = ln (-2x) + 3

7 A car depreciates about 15% each year.  Suppose the car was worth $40,000 in 2009.  When will the car be worth $15,000?

8 Kyle estimates that his business is growing at a rate of 5% per year.   His profits in 2005 were $67,000.
a Estimate his profits in 2010.

b When will Kyle’s profits be $100,000?
