On it, you will show that you can:
solve any quadratic equation - both real and imaginary answers
graph any quadratic equation
solve a quadratic application problem by developing a strategy (table, guess and check, create equation, graph) and find a solution
write an equation given the solutions of the function
be able to graph a function given the transformations to the parent function
Some application possibilities are:
finding the maximum height of a projectile
finding how long a projectile is in the air
building a pen from fencing to hold your elephants and snakes
- Write an equation that has solutions x = -4, 6
- solve: x^2 = -8x -15
- solve: y = 2x^2 +19x + 24
- solve: x^2 -10x = 11
- solve: 2(x+2)^2 = 22
- Find domain and range for y = -x^2
+6 - graph: f(x) = -3x^2 + 12x -5
- How high does a ball go up if its path is modeled by h(x) = -16x^2 + 160x where x is horizontal distance and h is height.
- You have 1,000 feet of fencing to make 2 pens to hold animals. What is the maximum area you can make from this amount of fencing.
