Tuesday 10/24
alg II hp - Travolta vs. Stallone! First day of end behavior of polynomials. We also did #50 on
p. 195. Hw is p. 162 #11, 13, 17, 19, 21.
alg II - reviewed the perf task and test. Did #50 on p. 195. Factor practice. Hw is the 5 factor problems that were on the board.
alg I - unit test day. Last day of the graphing unit.

Monday 10/ 23
alg II hp - We reviewed our unit test from Friday and took our pre-test of the new unit. Hw is to factor the 5 polynomials that I put on the board.
alg II - We took our unit test today. If you missed it, you will make it up tomorrow or when you return. No hw.
alg I - We prepared for tomorrow's test on graphing. We had a line of best fit problem and we graphed many equations using the whiteboards. Hw is to study using the review guide.

Review Guide for algebra I periods 4-6
There are 10 problems on the unit test on graphing
3- graphing situations
3 - graphing equations
4 - making a scatterplot, finding the equation for a line of best fit, making predictions
Here are some sample problems
1. graph: y = -4x + 5
2. graph: 8x - 2y = 15
3. graph: y = x^2 - 3x - 7
4. create a graph for revenue vs. sandwich sales where each sandwich costs $4.50
5. create a graph for distance vs. time for a runner going up a mountain and then down it.
6. create a graph for the Pico bus going from Westwood to SM and making 10 stops.
7. For the scatterplot, go to p. 257 in the book and do #3, 4.
Friday 10/20
alg II hp -- First unit test! Well done. New seats on Monday.
alg II - Performance task on quadratics. Unit test on Monday.
alg I - More review for our test on Tuesday. No hw but get ready for the test. Check out the review guide on another post.

Thursday 10/ 19
alg II hp - Looks like we had an application on determining if a quad function can produce possible solutions. Finished with a sorting activity to determine best strategy to solve.
alg II - Unit review and quad application problems. Check out the review guide to prepare for the test.
alg I - We did another scatterplot, line of best fit, equation activity and added residuals to the mix. Make sure you finish your parent function sketches by Friday.

Period 2 Alg II quadratics study guide
Looks like we will have 6-8 questions on our quadratics test.
On it, you will show that you can:
solve any quadratic equation - both real and imaginary answers
graph any quadratic equation
solve a quadratic application problem by developing a strategy (table, guess and check, create equation, graph) and find a solution
write an equation given the solutions of the function
be able to graph a function given the transformations to the parent function
Some application possibilities are:
finding the maximum height of a projectile
finding how long a projectile is in the air
building a pen from fencing to hold your elephants and snakes

- Write an equation that has solutions x = -4, 6
- solve: x^2 = -8x -15
- solve: y = 2x^2 +19x + 24
- solve: x^2 -10x = 11
- solve: 2(x+2)^2 = 22
- Find domain and range for y = -x^2
+6 - graph: f(x) = -3x^2 + 12x -5
- How high does a ball go up if its path is modeled by h(x) = -16x^2 + 160x where x is horizontal distance and h is height.
- You have 1,000 feet of fencing to make 2 pens to hold animals. What is the maximum area you can make from this amount of fencing.
Wednesday 10/ 17
alg II hp - Big review day for our test on Friday. We looked a little slow, especially on graphing and factoring. Check out the guide and you can ask questions tomorrow. See you then.
alg II - Did a bunch of whiteboard exercises to review the unit. Also looked at probelems #58, 60 in the text on p. 128. Hw is p. 128 #39, 40.
alg I - Small bit of review from yesterday's handout. We also took notes on parent functions and did some practice on graphing when you realize that an equation is a parent function.
