Tuesday 10/17

alg II hp -  Great job on the performance task!  Lots of discourse, perseverance and algebra.  WEll done.  Practice the problems on the review guide.

alg II -  We did more quadratic applications in preparation for the performance task.  Hw p. 128 #39, 40.

Monday 10/ 16

alg II hp -  We looked at writing equations from pure imaginary solutions in a quicker fashion.  We also did problems 1, 2 and 4 on the review guide.  Hw - make sure you are doing the problems on the review guide.

alg II -   We are working on our applications for quadratics.  We did problems in the Holt book  P. 361  #31, 32, 36 and 37.  We started with a warm up on graphing and solving quadratics.  No hw but make sure you can solve quad equations for both real and imaginary solutions.

alg I -  Periods 4 and 6:   p. 200 #8-10

period 5 -  You worked in groups on the handout "  Heartbeats/ Shake it Up.  Have it finished by Friday.

review Guide for alg II HP on quadratics

The test next Friday 10/20 for quadratics should have around 10 problems on it.

Main concepts
being able to find the vertex of a function using algebra (-b/2a)
being able to graph using vertex or standard form
be able to solve any quadratic (R or i  solutions)
be able to write a quadratic given solutions and another point (like y-int.)
be able to write a quad equation from points that are not solutions
be able to do operations with i, including rationalizing the denominator
be able to solve a non-linear system
be able to set up an equation and solve a quad application problem

Here are a few sample problems

  1. Write the function for a quadratic with x-intercepts at (6, 0) and (-2, 0) and has a y-int = 3
  1. Write the function for a quadratic with the vertex at (-4, 5) containing the point (2, -11).
  2. Write an equation that has solutions x = 1/2, 5
  3. write a quad function that has solutions x = 2 + 4i, 2 - 4i
  4.     (5, -3), (6, 3) and (1, 13) are points on a parabola.  Write the function that would include these points
  5. solve:  x^2 = -8x -15
  6. solve:  y =  2x^2 +19x + 24
  7. solve:  x^2 -10x = 11
  8. How high does a ball go up if its path is modeled by h(x) = -16x^2 + 160x   where x is horizontal distance and h is height.
  9.  Check out some of the elimination problems in section 3.5 solving non linear systems
  10. 10. simplify  (3+i) / (i-9)
  11.   You have 1,000 feet of fencing to make 2 pens to hold animals.  What is the maximum area you can make from this amount of fencing.

Friday 10/13

alg II hp -  We tried another quadratic sequence and looked at multiple ways to find a function..  We also took a diagnostic test to see what speed we are operating at.

alg II -  WE did #42-45 in section 3.4.  No hw.   test next week.

alg I -  Quiz on graphing and we turned in work.  No hw.

thursday 10/ 12

alg II hp - We did #69 on page 169 as well as #33, 34.  Took our quiz on solving quads with non integer solutions.  Hw is the 4 "i" problems on the board.

alg II -  Fun day in the library- 2 Desmos games.  Hw is p. 128 #35-37, 42.

alg I -  After we reviewed the Line of Best fir from yesterday, we worked in groups on the 4Situations handout- due tomorrow.

Wednesday 10/11

14 minute classes.  Wow!  We did our best.

alg II hp -  reviewed hw and tried to do a quad sequence.  Quiz Tomorrow.

alg II -  we did p. 118  #69.  Quiz on graphing Friday.

alg I - Went over #2 and 3 from Tuesday.  Did one Line of Best Fit problem.  Quiz Friday so make sure you are ready.

tuesday 10/ 10

alg II hp -  After the hw review, we practiced some quadratic inequalities and then wrote an equation from from complex answers.  Last part of class, we practiced simplifying i and rationalizing a denominator with i.  Hw is p. 151 #3-6, 14.

alg II -  Happy B Day, Keyhan!  Couple of quadratic videos + p/ 118 #68.  Hw is p. 128 #47-50, 59.

alg I -    Today we went over the side 2 of yesterday's handout, the frequency table.  We then did a problem on Bangadesh that required a frequency table.  There were 7 problems posted around the room.  Complete those and turn in on Friday.
